Hi, guys!
I know that make-up comes up on my blog pretty frequently but I think it’s time for a handful of news and to refresh my guide. Now that I’m richer with the experience that I gained I will gladly tell you about how to create the make-up that will last all day.
Especially in the summer, it is quite a challenge to create a long-wear make-up that can resist heat, humidity, and physical activity. I know a thing or two about it cause I’m a heartfelt jogger and I love all the sports so it was tiresome to find make-up that can survive almost anything. The more I hope that my advice will come handy to you.

Have make-up in mind at the skincare stage
It may sound a bit odd to some of you but you should think of the make-up even before you reach for foundation or BB cream. The effect will always be better when your skin is properly moisturized and smooth so you should use face serum on a regular basis (e.g. with hyaluronic acid) as well as natural oils (e.g. jojoba oil) or gentle exfoliators that can help you get rid of dead skin cells. You should also consider the use of products that brighten hyperpigmentations and even out skin color because fewer imperfections mean a lack of necessity for the use of strong make-up. Here handy maybe once more, face serum (e.g. with vitamin C or retinol) or homemade face masks (e.g. turmeric, oat flakes).
Prepare your skin for the make-up
Once I get to the make-up when my skin is supple and nourished it all goes way easier. I never skip the make-up base because it’s a simple way to camouflage all the imperfections, but also to make your make-up last longer. That is why the first step in make-up should definitely be the use of a lightweight make-up base.
Here comes a tip for you: the make-up base does not need to be a professional cosmetic used by make-up artists. My experience has taught me that you can use all sorts of cosmetics under your make-up.
- Regular make-up base – you can get it at every drugstore, it’s a solution used often by make-up artists, it’s a cosmetic that was created to be used on your skin before the make-up.
- Natural oil as a make-up base – the cheapest version that is also easier to obtain because oils such as argan, almond, or jojoba are available both in local stores and online while being able to prepare the skin for make-up equally well as a make-up base.
- Face cream as a make-up base – if you have neither make-up base nor oil, you can use a regular face cream that will moisturize your skin, soften it and make applied cosmetics hold better.
How to put your make-up on for all-day wear?
The key matter is the make-up technique. Doing it in a rush, using your fingers, or with products having poor quality is not the best idea. On multiple occasions, I have learned that everything matters, starting with the fact whether you use a brush or sponge to the amount of the product you apply.
What should you pay attention to? Most of all, use the right make-up accessories – if they said that the fat brush is for powder then it is for powder, period. You can’t apply the foundation with it because it needs to be slightly ‘pushed in’ the skin so you need a flat top brush or a beauty blender. Another important matter is the way you apply your make-up – slightly skimming the face here and there won’t bring the desired effect; just as much as the application of too much foundation and imprecise spreading it on the face. You should apply cosmetics in a tapping motion.
Setting the make-up using at-home methods
Obviously, you cannot have a long-wear make-up without setting it in place at the end. How to do it most effectively? There are quite a few options and it doesn’t necessarily have to involve professional cosmetics. My proven methods are:
- make-up fixer – setting spray used by make-up artists, so it is an option for special occasions when you must be 100% sure that make-up will not run down your face;
- translucent powder – it can be mineral, bamboo, rice, or even with delicate color matching your skin tone. The most important is for it to fulfill its task, which is the absorption of excess sebum and all that can unfavorably impact the make-up durability;
- potato flour – lastly homemade setting powder, also known as potato flour which is also able to perfectly absorb excess sebum and fix the make-up in place, but (important) you need to sprinkle the face with it really subtly.
Let me know if you know any methods for long-lasting make-up!
