Curly hair is ravishing but it may look bad if it’s not taken care of properly. You often ask me about the best ways to enhance the curl so I share my best tips today.

Lots of girls dream of a head of curls but few know how to enhance the natural curl easily. The right hair-care routine and a couple of reliable tricks are all it takes.

Natural ways to define hair curl

Moisturizing

Curly hair is usually more delicate, goes frizzy fast and is easily affected by all kinds of weather conditions. Moisturizing is a crucial element of hair care. You must use mild products which don’t dry out hair and are formulated without parabens and damaging alcohols.

Cut down on silicones

Silicones are supposed to smooth the hair out so they don’t make a good pick for curls. Your curls mostly need proteins which build the hair. The deficiency makes curls unmanageable. Seek collagen, keratin, silk and proteins in hair-care products.

Natural vegetable oils

They are savers for curly hair. It’s important that you choose the right oils suited to the type of hair porosity. If you don’t, they do nothing but harm. The product should nurture the scalp too. The best treatment for curls should boast a balance of conditioning ingredients and be formulated without silicones, harmful alcohols and parabens.

Styling products for curly hair

More product doesn’t mean better effects. Some people think that applying more of a styling product brings better results. Obviously this isn’t true. Products don’t work if you overuse them. The overload will cause nothing but weighed-down, very dry hair.

Scrunching

This trick is one of the best ways to bring the natural curl out. Ideally, start scrunching the hair while it’s still damp and slightly towel-dried. This way you “set” the curl. If you like, use mild styling products, oils or leave-in conditioners. Believe me, no frizz is going to bother you.

The right hairstyle

Many people, including me, like to braid or tie hair up to sleep. In the morning, you just unbraid the hair and gently run the fingers through the strands – you won’t spoil the curl. You can apply a styling product, hair oil or mist to fix the curl.

Headband

This accessory is really a save for curls: put it on and wind the strands around the headband. Leave it on for the night, take it off in the morning, comb the hair gently using the fingers and apply a setting spray.

Baby wipes

Have you heard of this trick? Instead of hard, bulky, inconvenient rollers, you wind the sections of hair on the wet wipes and tie the ends together. The dampness intensifies the curl and moisturizes the hair. When you wake up, proceed like you do with other heat-less curling methods.
