Today, we will talk a bit about the basic make-up accessories, i.e. make-up brushes. I’m a huge fan of those and I know that without good brushes, you will never achieve the make-up of your dreams. Important! Good doesn’t mean expensive or at least it doesn’t need to be. Therefore, how to choose make-up brushes? Which brushes do you need first to compose your set? How to take care of the brushes? I will tell you all.
Brushes bristle – synthetic or natural?
It’s the very first question when it comes to the brushes. Those are in two separate types, i.e. synthetic or natural bristle – at the very beginning, you’re confused and don’t know what’s better.
Allow me to tell you all about it. Well, natural brushes don’t necessarily have to be better than the synthetic ones. As it turns out, in some cases synthetic brushes work better. It happens when the cosmetic has a creamy or liquid texture – the synthetic bristle works better when it comes to take on and spread such cosmetics. Remember also that it needs to be convenient for the make-up so if you think that a brush works better for something that the manufacturer has not recommended, you shouldn’t hesitate and use it the way you like it. You are the artist and the brush in your hand is a tool.
Natural bristle is good with the color and dry powdery products. It’s a delicate bristle and should be washed very carefully. It’s perfect for delicate and loose products.
The types of make-up brushes
- Round brush – it is one of the small brushes that in my opinion is important in eye make-up. It should have a slightly pointy tip. At the same time, bristles cannot be too short or too hard. This brush is perfect for the application of dark eyeshadows in the external eye corner, highlighter in the inner eye corner, to apply cosmetics to the edge of the lower eyelid, and for all more detailed work.
- Small fluffy brush – small but very clever and helpful when it comes to the application of eyeshadows. If you choose a slightly flat brush but with a rounded tip, it will work for not only eyeshadows application but also for blending. This way one brush can replace two others.
- Large fluffy brush – it is used for contouring, highlighter, and blusher. It should be cut at an angle then all of its sides can be used for the application of a different product and this way you have 1 brush for 3 functions.
- The small, flat, angled brush is equally important: fills the brows and helps you apply eyeliner, but can also outline the lips.
- Large powder brush – as you know it is used for loose powder and this type of brush is the only correct one for this product.
- Flat top brush – let me tell you that once you apply foundation with it, you will do it only with this brush. This brush is a genius because you can stamp the face with it and precisely ‘press in’ the product into the skin. It gives you the feeling of exquisite harmony with the skin and make-up becomes beautiful, long-lasting, free from mask effect.
Make-up brushes should be washed gently but you do not need some professional tools. You can use a special liquid because it is made to take care of the hair and additionally disinfect them. Dry the brushes with bristle down. Remember that most greasy and heavy cosmetics (foundation, eyebrow pomade, creamy eyeshadows) should be removed with oils, not soap.
