Hey, my darlings. Do you use blusher? It is a marvelous cosmetic which you must know how to use. It can either make you immediately look gorgeous or can create cartoonish look and leave you with an odd-looking pink stain on the cheek. A blusher is a cosmetic that imitates natural blush. How to choose a blusher and apply it correctly? What are the blusher types? I will tell you all about it today!
The blusher – history
Before the blusher, we all know and love was created, women used to tint their cheeks with (attention!) strawberries, raspberries, beets and other fruits and vegetables with coloring properties. What’s more, they used to pinch the cheeks or smear them with (toxic) lead. What a determination and it all just to look beautiful… However, not always blusher has been popular, in the Age of Reason fashion started to change and blusher was associated with peasantry and crudeness – wellborn women had face powdered to the extent of gaining porcelain-like skin. Nowadays, the blusher is one of the most popular make-up cosmetics and there is nothing weird about it because it ensures a subtle yet glamorous effect.
How to choose a blusher?
The most important criteria when choosing a cosmetic for make-up is color. Obviously, there are universal and truly timeless colors matching every skin complexion (both warm and cold tones). Did you know that many make-up artists recommend to close the container with a blush in your hands and then compare its color with the color of the fingertips? You can also match your blusher color with the tone of the make-up – though this requires some knowledge about colors to intuitively choose the right shade.
Other criteria for choosing the blusher are its properties. Before purchase, think among many, about what you need from the cosmetic: do you want it to have glitter in it or should it be matte or perhaps you need a hypoallergenic product. Moreover, check which products are the easiest to apply for you – pressed, cream, loose or stick? There are a lot of options. I have a few different types and shades of the blusher and I love all of them! 🙂
How to apply a blusher?
- Moderation above all, especially in the evening because then blusher has a supporting role after eyes and lips make-up. The proportions are switched in the daytime make-up but it doesn’t mean that you have to get crazy with it… Moderation is all you need because it is easy to create a sloppy blob on the cheek which will not work in your favor.
- Each differently. It means that every blusher is applied differently. When I started my adventure with make-up, it was the easiest for me to use a stick blusher – all I needed to do was draw a subtle line from the ear (the top part) towards the nose stopping just about half of the way there, then I gently blended it with my fingertips.
The types of blusher
When I said that there is quite a bit to choose from, I wasn’t kidding. Certainly one of those types of blusher will work for you perfectly.
- Pressed blusher – the most popular. It resembles a pressed powder and works on a similar basis, only that to use it, you need an angled blusher brush. It has an advantage over other types of blushers because its excess can be removed with a cotton pad. On top of it, its way more long-lasting.
- Stick blusher – one of the most convenient and easiest to apply. It resembles a pomade – it is placed in the twisting packaging. It is very precise and convenient in use and for its use, you don’t need a brush.
- Cream blusher – it is an extremely long-lasting product. What’s more, it is often in the 2 in 1 option so you can apply it to both lips and cheeks. It is applied simply with fingertips directly to the skin. Sadly, its application requires skill and precision. The effect it leaves is expressive yet natural – obviously when applied correctly.
- Loose blusher – it is usually a mineral powder. It requires the use of a brush and is highly long-lasting. At the same time, it doesn’t cause allergy and contains nourishing minerals. However, it’s expensive and uncommon.
- Liquid blusher – it is more like a tint you use to color the cheeks and lips. One of the most iconic products of this type is Bene Tint by Benefit – it is used by Nicole Kidman. It’s an iconic cosmetic which formula that hasn’t changed in years.
Do you have your favorite blusher? I love pressed cosmetics by Bourjois or Nars Orgasm, another one I love is stick blusher by Avon – you can also apply it to the lips. I’m curious what blushers you have to recommend, let me know.
